Optomap Examinations with our Optometrists in Lubbock, TX

Our optometrists in Lubbock perform Optomap examinations. The Optomap machine takes extremely detailed images of the back of your eye and displays them on a computer screen, which allows our optometrists to diagnose any problems with your retina, macula, optic nerve and the blood vessels in the back of your eye. Getting regular examinations with the Optomap can help catch eye diseases before they start negatively affecting your vision.Woman using a Optomap in Lubbock, TX

High-Resolution Images with the Optomap

Getting regular images of the back of your eyes should be part of your annual eye care. This can be accomplished with high-resolution images from the Optomap. This exam is usually performed after an eye dilation.

During the exam, you will be asked to place your face against a facepad and look at a specific point. This ensures your eyes are correctly aligned with the machine. The machine then takes several images of your retina, macula and optic nerve. The images are displayed on a computer screen. Our optometrist, overseeing your care, will explain the images on the screen and tell you if there are any problems with the back of your eye. Since the images are digital, they can be sent to your family physician and other doctors to help you manage your overall health.

Eye Diseases Diagnosed with the Optomap

Taking pictures with the Optomap can help diagnose eye diseases and chronic diseases that may be affecting your vision. In fact, it is not uncommon to spot the signs of early diabetes or high blood pressure through a dilated eye exam and detailed images, using the Optomap.

  • Age-related Macular Degeneration
  • Detached Retina
  • Diabetic Retinopathy
  • Glaucoma
